Yoga & Wellness Retreats on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast

Yoga & Wellness Retreats on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast

There’s a reason people who come to this stretch of coast for a fishing trip end up booking yoga classes. The Central Pacific, the corridor between Los Sueños and Jacó, extending down to Playa Hermosa: has built a genuine wellness scene over the past decade, and it works because of geography.

You’re 90 minutes from San José’s international airport. The jungle starts at the edge of town. The Pacific is right there. A morning yoga class and an afternoon on the water don’t compete: they complement each other in a way that doesn’t happen in most beach destinations. This isn’t an accident. The surf culture here draws people who care about their bodies. The resort infrastructure at Los Sueños adds spa access and organized classes. And the lush green season, which runs May through November: brings fewer crowds, lower prices, and a jungle so alive it practically hums.

This guide names the real studios, spas, and retreat centers you can actually book. Not a generic “Costa Rica is great for wellness” piece, the specific addresses and what they cost. For general trip planning, the Jacó area guide and the Los Sueños guide cover the broader picture.

Yoga Studios in Jacó

Aurora Yoga & Wellness Center

The most established studio in town. Aurora occupies the second level of Jaco Walk: find the Gollo and BAC San José stores, then go upstairs. The ocean is a two-minute walk.

Classes run seven days a week across a solid range of styles: Yogalates on Monday mornings, Yoga Sculpt on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sound Healing paired with Chill Vinyasa on Tuesday mornings, Embodiment Vinyasa Flow mid-week, Prenatal Yoga, Gentle Vinyasa & Meditation on Fridays. No reservation required: show up.

Pricing: Drop-in $15 (₡8,000). Five-class pass $50, valid one month. Monthly unlimited $140. Walk-in pricing is fair for what you get.

For visiting yogis, the drop-in model makes this the easiest studio to work into a trip. Check their current monthly schedule at aurorayogajaco.com before your visit.

Morphosis Studio

A different energy from Aurora: smaller, more eclectic, rooted in Jacó’s local arts scene. Morphosis is a movement and art studio at the intersection of Calle Bohio and Avenida Pastor Díaz, behind Café Bohio in the center of town. They run yoga classes alongside meditation and reiki sessions.

Worth checking if you want something less tourist-facing. The community skews local and the vibe is collaborative rather than polished.

Yoga Retreats Near Jacó

Doce Lunas Hotel & Spa

Doce Lunas operates on its own calendar. The hotel sits at the base of a jungle-covered mountain just outside Jacó: close enough to walk to town, far enough that macaws fly overhead and the gardens feel genuinely wild. They have both an indoor studio for Bikram and hot yoga, and an outdoor shala for everything else.

Multi-day yoga retreats happen here regularly, often brought in by outside retreat leaders who rent the space and accommodations. The hotel, a four-star property with pool, hot tub, on-site spa, trails, and a restaurant: functions as a complete retreat base. If you’re researching a dedicated yoga week in Costa Rica and don’t want to commit to a more remote location, Doce Lunas is the closest thing to a purpose-built retreat center that’s also 15 minutes from nightlife and restaurants.

Check their website and social channels for current retreat calendar, as schedules rotate seasonally.

Vida Asana School of Yoga

About 10 minutes south of Jacó in Playa Hermosa, on a river in the rainforest, less than a mile from the beach. Vida Asana is a full all-inclusive yoga retreat center: three organic, garden-to-table meals daily, two yoga shalas, a pool, hammocks, and a community designed around practice and recovery.

They run teacher training programs (YTT) and hosted retreats that include Cacao Ceremonies, Kirtan, Inner Child Meditation, and surf add-ons. If you’re thinking about a yoga certification or a serious week-long reset rather than drop-in classes, Vida Asana is the right call for this area. Bikes on-site, surfboard rentals arranged, and the kind of quiet that comes from being in the jungle with no traffic noise.

For yoga classes and retreat programming near Los Sueños, Vida Asana is the most complete option within a short drive.

Surf + Yoga: The Combination That Makes Sense Here

Surf Synergy

This is the headline property for the surf-wellness combination. Surf Synergy sits above Jacó on a hilltop with open-air treatment spaces, an infinity pool, and views of the Pacific, the kind of setting that earned Travel + Leisure’s #1 International Destination Spa ranking in 2025.

All stays are seven nights, all-inclusive, Saturday-to-Saturday. The program includes: five one-on-one surf lessons with daily video analysis, five yoga classes, one massage session, daily breathwork, ice baths, sauna access, and three gourmet farm-to-table meals grown largely on-site. SUP sessions, hikes, and adventure excursions can substitute for surf lessons.

Rates (2025/2026): Rates range from $2,790/person double (Casa Cielo Deluxe Queen) to $5,700/person single (Penthouse Suite). Bungalows (the most popular option) run $3,590/person double, $4,390/person single, $3,250/person triple. King Rooms in the main villa are $3,690/person double, $4,490 single. All rates are per person for seven nights, all-inclusive, plus 13% tax.

It’s not cheap. But the math works differently when the rate covers meals, surf lessons, yoga, massage, and all the extras. This is the Central Pacific’s full-service wellness resort answer.

School of the World

A longer-running, more community-oriented option in Playa Jacó. Over 20 years of operation, School of the World combines daily surf lessons with evening yoga classes, Spanish immersion, photography courses, and boutique hotel accommodations in one weekly package.

The yoga here isn’t the centerpiece. It’s a daily 75-minute class at 6:30 PM that pairs with the physical demands of two hours of morning surf lessons. The price point (~$900/week including accommodation and instruction) makes this accessible for travelers who want the surf-yoga rhythm without the premium resort price.

Spas

Sibö Rainforest Spa & Retreat at Los Sueños Marriott

The resort spa at Los Sueños, located in the Los Sueños Marina area. Sibö is a full-service luxury spa inspired by Costa Rica’s rainforest traditions: massages, facials, Vichy showers, saunas, whirlpools, steam rooms, herbal body wraps, and yoga classes. Treatments are designed around local tropical ingredients.

For guests staying in villas or condos within the Los Sueños community, Sibö is accessible through the Marriott. It’s the most complete spa facility in the area: multiple treatment rooms, proper steam and hydrotherapy facilities, trained therapists.

Serenity Spa at Villa Caletas

Fifteen minutes from Los Sueños, perched above the jungle on the mountainside between Jacó and Los Sueños. Serenity Spa’s treatment rooms overlook the Pacific and the rainforest canopy: macaws and toucans call from the trees outside the windows. The spa is known for using premium European skincare brands and products, delivering a level of quality typically found in high-end spas abroad.

The packages range from a 2.5-hour Half Day treatment ($230 for one person, includes a three-step body cleansing, 50-min anti-stress massage, mini facial, and mud wrap) to couples packages like the Tropical Sunset ($425, coconut scrub, massage, mango-pineapple body mask) and Romance ($375 for two, starts with an aromatherapy foot soak with a glass of wine, ocean view included).

If you’re choosing one spa treatment during a Los Sueños stay, the detour to Villa Caletas is worth it. The view alone changes the experience.

In-Home Massage at Los Sueños

For guests who’d rather not leave their villa: Los Sueños Massage (jacomassage.com) sends certified, bilingual therapists directly to your property across the Los Sueños Resort area: villas, condos, and hotel suites. Swedish, deep tissue, sports recovery, hot stone, couples sessions. Available morning to evening.

Jaco Healing Arts & Spa (massagejaco.com, +506 70534926) covers the same territory and adds yoga therapy. Sensei Travis Riemer offers in-home yoga sessions customized to your level, a practical option if you want the instruction without traveling to a studio.

Sound Healing and Other Modalities

Aurora Yoga’s Tuesday schedule regularly pairs Chill Vinyasa with sound healing: a Tibetan bowls component built into the class. For deeper exploration, Samaveda International Sound Healing Academy runs singing bowls and gong master teacher trainings in the Playa Hermosa area. Most of these are multi-day courses for practitioners, not casual drop-ins, but they bring a concentration of serious sound work to this stretch of coast.

Breathwork shows up on almost every retreat menu here; Surf Synergy includes a dedicated breathwork training session in their all-inclusive program. If this is a priority, ask directly when booking at Doce Lunas or Vida Asana, as availability depends on which retreat leaders are in residence.

Building a Wellness Day from Your Nest Stays Villa

The practical advantage of staying in a private villa at Los Sueños or near Jacó is time flexibility. Nothing is scheduled unless you schedule it.

A morning that works: the 8am Yogalates or 9:30am Hatha at Aurora Yoga runs 75 minutes. You’re done by 10:15, the beach is two minutes away for a swim, and you’re back at the villa by 11 with the rest of the day open.

Afternoon option: book a 2pm treatment at Serenity Spa, the drive takes 15 minutes, you emerge around 5pm, and the mountain views at that hour are something. Alternatively, arrange an in-home massage through Los Sueños Massage for 4pm so you don’t move at all.

Sunset meditation? Aurora and Vida Asana both run evening classes. Aurora’s Tuesday Chill Vinyasa + Sound Healing at 9:30am ends early enough to leave the rest of the day open. The 7 Doorways Vinyasa on Wednesday evenings at 6pm and the Embodiment Vinyasa Flow on Thursday evenings at 6pm both line up well with sunset timing on the Pacific side: finishing a yoga class as the light goes orange over the ocean is a particular feature of this coast.

Nest Stays concierge can arrange yoga instructors for private sessions at your villa, coordinate spa bookings, and connect you with the right retreat center based on how many days you have and what your practice looks like. Check our events calendar for upcoming wellness retreats and festivals.

When to Come (And What to Pack)

Best time: The green season (May through November) is underrated for wellness trips. The crowds that fill Jacó in December and January are gone. Rates drop. The jungle is thick and alive. Morning yoga on an outdoor shala during a light tropical rain is its own category of experience. Afternoon thunderstorms are predictable enough to plan around (they come around 3–4pm, last 45 minutes, and clear). If you want retreat centers with space and serious practitioners rather than vacation-season tourists, come during the wet season.

Dry season (December–April) is fine too: more sunshine, more beach time, higher accommodation rates and more crowded studios.

Pack: Two or three sets of moisture-wicking yoga clothes. This is not the climate for cotton in practice. A reusable water bottle. You’ll drink more than you think. Reef-safe sunscreen (required at most coastal areas). Light long-sleeve for evening sessions when the jungle cools down. Studio mats are available at Aurora, Doce Lunas, and most retreat centers: ask when you book to confirm if you don’t want to pack yours.

Booking tips: Aurora Yoga doesn’t require reservations: walk in. Doce Lunas and Vida Asana require advance booking, especially for retreat weeks and YTT. Surf Synergy books out fast; Saturday arrival slots during dry season fill months ahead. Serenity Spa is accessible same-week but worth calling in advance for preferred time slots.
